Anniversary #13

Erica and I got married on Memorial Day weekend almost 13 years ago.  May 30, 1999 was a fantastic day!  We had so much fun celebrating with our family and friends.  We have come very far in these 13 years of marriage, and I’m excited to see where God takes us in our next 13 years.

For our 13th anniversary, I was going to surprise Erica with a trip to New York City.  However, I realized pretty quickly that to surprise her would mean that I had to plan everything for the trip without her knowledge.  My wife is a planner when it comes to these kinds of trips!  She actually loves to detail trips out, so being the nice guy that I am, I gifted her with the opportunity to plan our 13th anniversary trip to the Big Apple ;)

She has planned indeed!  She knows where we’re going and the exact times we have to be there.  She already had reservations weeks in advance.  She has tickets in hand.  She has trip confirmations and hotel bell hop details.  She is absolutely amazing at this kind of stuff, and she loves it!  How dare I rob her of that joy?  How could I try to surprise her with my kind of detailed planning?  ’Um…we’ll figure it out when we get there.  How are we getting there?  Um…’  She would be frustrated by my style.

It’s so fun to leverage each other’s strengths in our marriage.  It’s wild to see how much we’ve changed over these 17 years of knowing each other and 13 years of marriage.  I’m looking forward to our trip…especially the part where I just follow her agenda.

As a leader, sometimes it feels so good to just follow!
